S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Sharon Freeman for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Serving (81%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Serving in the background, where there is little outward glory prevents me from taking glory for myself. I struggle with pride and being in background roles keeps me from saying, “Look how great I am!” Besides, there is a lot of work in God’s world that someone needs to do. Why not me?

#2 Gift, Giving (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am well aware of how materially blessed we, in the US are. The Bible teaches much about how dangerous riches can be and that from those who have much, much will be expected. Giving is a commandment, so, as in service, if I am able, I will do it.

#3 Gift, Mercy Showing (62%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
There is so much ugliness in our world today. I have a great amount of comfort in my life. Again, if I can share it with someone in a rough spot, why wouldn’t I? God wants us to share His love with others in hopes that his kingdom will grow and that all people will develop intimate relationships with him. If I can kindle that for someone else through mercy, what an honor.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Spend time in God’s creation, just taking it all in: sights, sounds, smells…

2. Sharing my knowledge of agriculture with others to help them live more comfortably, steward their environment, care for their land and animals. This is also a chance to share what I believe about God and his love for us.

3. Cook for others.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

probably 30+ years of age

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

-increasing the diversity of our congregation so everyone feels she/he has a place:
-getting everyone more actively involved in “feeding”, not just coming to be fed

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

No earth-shattering, 180-degree turns in my life. I was raised in church and gradually developed my personal relationship with God. I have never doubted his existence. As I grew older, I began reading the Bible and studying about Jesus more, on my own. I continue to learn and grow closer to him. The more I learn, the more I am convinced he is who the Bible describes: God’s son who took God’s wrath upon himself because of my sin and in order that I might have a relationship with God.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Brooks Ave. Church of Christ, Raleigh: where I was baptized and began studying the Bible intentionally (1979-1990), taught 2nd grade a couple years, served to prepare communion regularly, women’s ministry

Asbury First Methodist Church (birth to 1975) member of MYF, bell choir

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

international mission trips

family life, especially summer vacations

career

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

divorce

addiction

loss of nephew to war

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. traveling to improve agricultural production/animal welfare on a global scale

4. alleviate material poverty/ homelessness

5. work to reduce enmity between people: help them to see violence is not the best way and that we can get along, even if we disagree
