S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results
Thank you Sandra McDaniel for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God
Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.
Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility
Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.
Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace
[E]xperience
Although my family lived in Atlanta, as a child/teen, we regularly attended a small African-American CME church in a rural city where my father was born (40 miles outside of Atlanta). Most church members were relatives. Church services were only held on 2nd and 4th Sundays because the pastor also served on 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays at the nearby church. I “joined the church” as a young child and sang in the choir from childhood until I left to go to college. My parents expressed their faith in God in their own ways without directly teaching their children. Hence, I never really understood what it meant to be a Christian or have a personal relationship with Christ. Typical of that generation, children were mostly seen, not heard, and expected to “follow the rules”. I occasionally attended church in my 20s and 30s and sang in choirs in college/work. I gave my life to Christ in 2012 alone in my living room at a point in my life when I accepted that couldn’t carry the “burdens” of life anymore. TOL is the only church I’ve attended regularly or joined as an adult. I am still learning what it means to have a relationship with Christ (i.e., get out of my head where I struggle with accepting who God is, open my heart to really seek after and trust in Him, develop a prayer life, and letting go of my perfectionist tendencies of not knowing how to be and/or “feel” like a Christian in the “right” way). However, I know without a doubt that He knows where I am in my journey, continues to “speak” to me through my experiences and others, and brought me to TOL to help me grow in my faith.

Raised by parents who valued education and modeled serving others (family and church). They made great sacrifices to provide us with opportunities to explore our gifts, interests, and talents (i.e., academic, extracurricular and cultural activities, vacations throughout Georgia and surrounding states, driving between GA and VA at the beginning/end of each college semester)
Attended predominantly African-American elementary and high schools and undergraduate college that provided academic (i.e., STEM), social, and cultural opportunities for personal development. Received full academic/work scholarships and co-operative education/internships that paid for my Bachelors (Norfolk State) and Masters of Science (John Hopkins) degrees.
Established and maintained supportive friendships with women throughout my personal and professional life.
Survivor of childhood molestation and teen rape
Obesity and its mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical challenges
Witnessing my mother’s 35-year painful and debilitating experiences of living with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and my father’s nearly 10-year diagnosis and debilitating decline of living with Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease.
