S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Joshua Bernard Fitzer for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (93%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I think I’m really good at encouraging people. There are times when I feel like my work with someone didn’t reach them, but then they tell me later how I encouraging I was. I feel like that’s the Holy Spirit’s way of reminding me who’s in charge.

#2 Gift, Evangelism (84%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Because I’m a loud mouth for Jesus.

#3 Gift, Pastoring/Shepherding (84%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I love meeting with people face to face. I can do it over text or over the phone, but face to face is where I shine. I enjoy making time for other people, listening to them, encouraging them.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Besides spending time with Jesus, I absolutely love spending time with my daughter. She gives me so much joy, peace and drive. She is truly amazing.

2. Going to North Summit brings me a lot of joy and fulfillment. Being able to pour into other people fills me up and helps along in my struggles. God brought me to NS and I’m so thankful for that. I don’t think I’d be in the position I’m in if I wasn’t attending NS and playing an active role in the church.

3. I really enjoying playing shows with my band. We don’t play as often as we used to, but that passion still burns within me. I love screaming my guts out, running and jumping on stage. Telling people about what Jesus has done in my life is my favorite part. I also love hanging at our merch table and talking with people. It’s one of my most favorite things.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I’ll work with anyone, I don’t care about age or gender. I’m willing to set aside political differences if our common goal is to advance the Kingdom.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I think this new season we’re coming into at NS excites me the most. The formation of bigger and more small groups is important to church growth and for people to actively participate in God’s word on another day besides Sunday.

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was a goth kid in the 10th grade. I was kind of the “black sheep” of the family. All of my family had already given their lives to Jesus. I was more stubborn when it came to that. I thought I didn’t need it, I was okay. I went to a youth group that had all preppy kids in it, they were nice, but I didn’t really fit in. During a Saturday night service, they had an alter call and I decided to give my life to Jesus.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

I used to be a leader at a young adult church called Filament. I was there for a few years. I preached there every few weeks along with the other leaders. It was a good experience for me. I learned a lot.

My biggest ministry experience is my band. We’ve played in bars, churches, all sorts of different venues. I’ve never hesitated to share the Gospel. God has done a lot of amazing things with us.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My first year at Sonshine was in 2004. It was the summer before my senior year of High School. I was into heavy music and still trying to find my “calling.” The last day of Sonshine that year, I was watching a band called Mortal Treason. All of the members had one inch plugs in their ears and covered in tattoos. It was the heaviest band I had ever heard at the time. The vocalist was screaming his guts out while on his knees worshipping. It was so amazing. At the moment, God spoke to me and said, “This is what I want you doing.” So, I listened.

The rest is history.

The birth of my daughter was huge for me (obviously). Having a child puts things in perspective for you. It really helped me focus on being respectful towards my ex-wife, although there were times when I didn’t feel like it.

I talk about this a lot but being able to be in a ministry based band has been a huge blessing. I think the whole experience of being able to do that has been one giant positive experience.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

My divorce has been, by far, the worst experience of my life. I don’t even wish divorce on my worst enemy. The feeling of such betrayal, doubt, fear and endless questions is the worst. It’s shaped me into a man that I’m not totally sure of yet, but I know it’s good because God is molding it.

Growing up in a home of alcoholism has also shaped me into the man I am today. Because of seeing what alcohol could do to a person, I decided at 17 that I would never drink. It’s decision that I have never regretted.

I’d also say being addicted to Adderall for three years. It’s an addiction that I never want anyone to deal with. For the longest time I believed that I’d be addicted to it for the rest of my life, simply because trying to stay off of it was really, really hard. But I did it, and I’ve been able to lend advice to others to have struggled with addiction.

God loves using our past to help others, and I love that.
