Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God
Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.
Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable
Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.
Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline
[E]xperience
My mom shared the Gospel with me when I was about 5 years old and I asked Jesus to come into my life and be my Savior. I began to grow in my faith through what my parents taught me at home and what I experienced at First Friends Church. I eventually went to Malone College and God began to work on my heart. As I studied the role of the Holy Spirit in my life I felt a call to ministry. I sensed that Jesus was asking me to make Him Lord of my life and serve Him. After graduating from Malone, I went into full time ministry at First Friends Church. Through the years God has continued to draw me in to a deeper relationship with Him as He guides my life.
First Friends Church (Canton, OH)
– Youth/Sports Intern (1994-96)
– High School Youth Pastor (1996-2005)
– Marriage, Family, and Men’s Pastor (2013-Present)
New Life Church (Colorado Springs, Colorado)
– Children’s Pastor (2010-2012)
Growing in my understanding of the Holy Spirit’s working in my life and sensing a call to ministry.
Marrying my wife Mary. It has been such a blessing to grow with her as we share life together.
Moving to Colorado. God revealed Himself to us in many new ways and took us on an adventure.
Playing basketball at Malone and sitting the bench. God used it to build character and learn to honor Him in difficult situations.
Being let go from my ministry role in Colorado. It helped me grow as a leader and be willing to stand for what you believe is right even when it is difficult.
Seeing my brother go to jail. It gave me a heart for families going through difficult relational dynamics.
Wrapping It Up
The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?
1. My Relationship with GOD
2. My Relationship with Others
- Putting Your Spouse First
- Your Kids Second
- Everyone Else After those
3. To help our church grow into the full potential that God has for us. Also, to help our church live out the calling He has placed on us.
4. Develop a “school of ministry” within the local church setting to develop current/future leaders. Also network with other church leaders in the area to make a positive impact for Christ in our area.
5. I would love to be a part of the “big event” (a movement of God that has a nation and international impact). I am not sure what this looks like, but God has put the stirring on my heart for a long time.
