S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Tammy Masters for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. [H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. play with animals

2. help my parents

3. do service work in the recovery community

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

adults

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

The alt right that claim Christianity, but don’t do what Jesus would do and give the faith a bad taste in people’s mouths. Churches aligning them selves with the most corrupt Republican party ever is giving Christianity a bad name. I was raised that there was always supposed to be separation of church and state. These are troubling times, especially for a Christian in a Lesbian relationship.

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

My Grandmother told me about her brother in the war that brought men to Christ right before he and they died. I asked how I would know Jesus knocked on my heart and she said I just would. I did. I accepted him and we said the prayer. I was 10-11 years old.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church in Urbana, IL I grew up in that church and went again after I had moved back from KY and OH, after about 16-17 years in 2009, until 4 years ago.

Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Glencoe, KY from 2000-2004 and Ft Mitchell Baptist Church in Ft. Mitchell, KY from 1993-1996

Vineyard in Colerain, OH – attended a couple times in 2005-2006

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

At the Vineyard in Colerain, the music was playing, we were singing, and it felt like a channel of a wave was gently crossing from one side of the room to the other and back again. The music ended and the main singer said “Did you all feel that?!” I knew I wasn’t the only one. The whole room was engulfed in the spirit.

In the devastation of active addiction in Colerain, I took a walk (to runaway home) and I began to walk with Jesus. He had me take a turn and I stopped at some woods where a dog leash was sitting. I picked it up and walked into the woods. I came upon a dying butterfly in the midst of the trees. I picked it up, held it in my hand and comforted the insect in it’s last moments. I sat down feeling humble and grateful and heard a mosquito. I told the insect it could not drink my blood. It tapped on my finger nail. I still told it no. I finally told it to go ahead and it took a drink from the edge of my finger. It never got itchy. I came out of the woods and was singing and happy and as I walked back to my place, I shared my path with a black man. I shared some of my struggles and love of God and knowledge that he loves me even though I loved another woman. He turned to go to his church. I had gotten no off putting attitude with him and we were glad to have talked so openly.

I almost overdosed and came to singing Amazing Grace. This was before the song wave happened. I finally understood the Holy Spirit part of the Trinity. I had also needed some hygiene items and went to look for any cigarettes I could find and came upon a grocery back in the parking lot of the strip mall. It had everything we needed. I knew God was taking care of me, even in active addiction.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Addiction

My Aunt was murdered. We know that her ex husband hired someone to kill her. We could never prove it, but my Grandma got custody of my 3 cousins. I just found out yesterday that he is dead. While I celebrate that he died miserable, lonely, mean, and hateful, I did pray for him as a child. My Aunt was murdered right after I became a Christian. I felt he needed God. Whether he developed an honest relationship with Christ or not, I do not know. I can’t help but be glad he is no longer among the living after taking my cousin’s mother from them. I idealized my Aunt. She was fun and pretty. I hate that so many men want to strip that strength and beauty to conquer instead of nurture.

Becoming a lesbian after acting on bi-curiosity was very difficult for me due to what churches/family say. I did a lot of my own soul searching and know that God still loves me and I am on his path. I am blessed that my parents, grandmother, and sister all love me the same and accept my partner. My cousins still love me, but do not accept my partner. I am estranged from them a bit, but I’m ok with it.
