S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Taylor Austin for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Administration (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
My background is in entrepreneurship and my entire career has been based on administration/management. I love building teams and finding ways to make those teams excel. This is accomplished through effective coaching and “administering” of tasks all pointed toward one main goal.

#2 Gift, Serving (59%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I love helping others and feel good when I can help see something to completion. I am willing to help in any way I can as long as I understand how my help affects the outcome.

#3 Gift, Pastoring/Shepherding (53%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I don’t mind helping those who want help. I have a background in coaching and this has helped me in my management career but also helps me encourage others in their walk with Jesus. I love working with youth who want to learn and server Jesus. I have to have fun while working and kids seem to respond well to that as well.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Solving problems. The problems I usually can solve very well are business or financial. I love digging into numbers and finding out how to use that information to fix a problem and institute plans to “win”

2. I like working with youth. I like taking new employees and molding them as well as coaching teams to greatness. I have a background in youth group leadership and love seeing a cold/lukewarm student come to be on fire for God.

3. I love being able to support and provide for my family. I love being able to give my family a life of adventure and experiences they will never forget. Being able to solely provide gives me a great sense of pride and accomplishment.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I like working with people who are driven and goal oriented. I need a direction and I don’t do well if it seems like we are wandering around aimlessly. I am very good at adapting to my surroundings and I work well with most age groups. I would say youngest I do well with is most likely High School age but anybody that age or above I can connect with.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I am excited about High School ministry but unfortunately work hours do make it difficult. The other thing I enjoy is working on the business side of things. I have a history in business and find that side of a Church exciting and quite frankly easy. I want to get connected but the biggest concern is my schedule and being able to help with the odd hours I work.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Born into a very religious family. Grew up Church of Christ until 2nd grade when my family moved to Non-denominational. Attended Christian Schools my entire life including college at Concordia Seward. Accepted Christ into my life at a very young age. Fell away a little bit in middle and high school. In College my faith really became my own with the help of my now wife and unfortunately it has it’s highs and lows. I am looking to become consistently on fire instead of hot and cold.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Youth Group leader in Pocatello Idaho at Grace Lutheran. Unofficial Youth Director at Trinity Lutheran in St. George, UT.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Football. This isn’t one experience but I played Middle School through College. It has taught me how to fight through adversity, work hard and work as a team. It is a massive part of who I am today.

Marrying my wife Katelin. I think a lot of about how decision can and would make a huge difference in my life. Had I not made the correct decision with marrying her I don’t know where my life would be but I do know that I am much better with her in it.

Birth of my son Tucker. He has taught me how what I do makes a huge impact on other peoples lives. He mimics everything I do and I want to make sure that what he mimics is the positives of my role model.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

I have had three knee surgeries due to football. Any one of those could have ended my career but I came through the uncertainty of each of those and continued to play. I feel for those going through similar situations where they have something they loved stripped away and don’t know if they will get it back.

My parents divorced when I was 25. I was already married and had my son on the way. I had always seen my parents as strong and role models. That opened my eyes to the fact that things can change. I have taken as much as I can from their divorce to learn what I can do to avoid the same outcome and work toward that goal.

I have applied for and even interviewed for and not been hired for many positions and promotions. The great thing is that I have been able to put those situations in God’s hands and when looking back see how it wasn’t the right position or time for me. It has really taught me to trust in him and his plan.
