S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Thomas Schings for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. #1 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (93%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am a very positive person. I believ that every day is a gift from God and if we can just give our problems over to Him, we canovercome anything.

#2 Gift, Prophecy (93%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I don’t believe this is a gift of mine. I love to discuss Biblical truths with people. I enjoy learning those truths through scripture. Maybe I need to understand everything involved with Prophecy as a spiritual gift.

#3 Gift, Mercy Showing (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am a people person and I know I’m not better than anyone else. We all have our issues and sins. I don’t look down on anyone or think any job is below me. Everyone needs a kind word or a hand up at times. We need to be Christ to those in need.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Marriage ministry – My wife and I have a passion for marriages. They are under attack. A Christians marriage should be a testimony to the world. Instead, our divorce rate mirrors the world. That must change.

2. My family – They are everything to me

3. Journey Church – I am committed to our community

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I have always been a junior high or high school age worker. It is recently that I realized that I am no longer relevent. My wife asked me to step down from student ministries and join her in marriage ministry. That is where I believe I’m needed and I love it.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Church issues don’t bother me. I know we all have sin and faults. That means the church body and leadership aren’t exempt. It’s how we handle it through scripture that matters. That is where I feel comfortable. I also feel a real passion for marriage ministry.

Your Primary was ‘The Otter’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was in college and began attending a Christian group on campus through a friend that wouldn’t take “no” for an answer. After a few months I attended a retreat and gave my life to Christ during one of the sessions. A few days later I was baptised on a frozen lake in northern Indiana.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Westgate Chapel, Toledo, OH – Youth Leader (JH & HS) also served on the Youth Board – 12 years

Journey Church, Fairview Park, OH – Hospitality & Youth – Since 2013

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Meeting and marrying my wife followed by the birth of our kids and grandchildren

Working with the youth and going on mission trips. Being a part of their spiritual journey.

The impact ACT had on my life back in college. Great group of Christians

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Early bancruptcy in our marriage

Being demoted years ago was impactful. It hurt. But, I learne my weaknesses. It allowed me to be more understanding of failure

My wife and I getting pregnant in college before we were married – Sin

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Help organize and execute a Marriage Ministry at Journey. I’m not sure wjat it would look like. Whatever God has planned

4. Do regular mission trips

5. Develop an outreach for the homosexual community. It’s such a tough subject due to the sin involved. But there has to be a way to reach out Biblically.
