S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results
Thank you Vern Stoneback for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
It’s easy and I’m pretty lazy.
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
All sin is mental illness and we’re all really mentally ill. Call it original sin if you wish. We’re all caught up in it and can’t see it or escape on our own.
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I’m not so sure about teaching, but I sure like to learn and bounce off of others what I have learned.
[H]eart
1. Encouraging others, with the emphasis on the ‘courage’ part of ‘encouraging.’ Change happens when we discover that we have the courage to do it.
2. Reading
3. Understanding others. Seeing what’s inside them and motivates their actions and choices.
Those trying to wrestle with how Christ wants them to live. Those who know they are weak and want to grow stronger.
The ‘Church’ is known for its opposition to abortion. Yet, we are not known for our efforts to assist women who choose abortion because of the immense burdens associated with raising a child – housing, employment, childcare, healthcare, education, etc. If we can help them to achieve these goals, we would be helping both them and their child. These are long-term commitments, not just one-time small gifts. Opposing abortion is meaningless at the least an cruel at the worst if we don’t step up to these other commitments. I don’t believe Christ is pleased.

Your Primary was ‘The Otter’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God
Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.
Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline
Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.
Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace
[E]xperience
Long process. It was primarily through seeing Christ in others and stepping out in faith and trusting Him (He is faithful).
Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Centennial, Colorado
Taught Sunday School and was a leader in the young professionals group ’84-’92.
Koinonia – a Catholic program I was involved with in Colorado in the mid to late ’80s. Helped wherever needed (except presentations – I’ve always been extremely uncomfortable doing presentations) in the prison program in a Denver federal minimum security program.
Group therapy when I was in my 20s (I found one-on-one therapy pretty useless – it was only in the (rather scary – I went in with extreme reticence) group environment that I flourished and grew.
Friends – both Christian and non-Christian. Nothing has impacted my life more than my relationships.
Attending (what was) the Multnomah School of the Bible Grad Certificate Program in ’92-’93.
A health problem that I have lived with most of my life. It was undiagnosed from its beginning when I was 8 until I was 22. It caused great pain and was considered to be in my ‘head’ by most family and friends for all those years. I isolated and feared I would not be able to hold down a job before I saw a doctor who correctly diagnosed the problem. (It was a simple problem with a simple solution.)
Mother was at times mentally ill. She grew up in an unbelievably dysfunctional family with a highly narcissistic father and, all things considered, did her best by us kids.
The first day at YMCA weekend camp when I was 9, my Dad dropped me off at the door and left. I was terrified and asked him to go in with me. No. I went in as was too afraid to go to the desk and ask for help, so I sat down and waited, hoping someone would ask me if they could help. After about and hour I finally went to the desk and asked for help. It was too late for me to go into the program that day, so they called my parents to pick me up. Dad picked me up and all was silence. When we got home he was putting up a new screen door and I tried to help, but accidently walked into the door and almost broke it. He screamed at me and I went bawling to my room. That was all I remember of that day. I needed him walk me to the front desk and stand behind me with his hands on my shoulders while I talked with the folks in charge. I would have been fine after that. But, as always, I didn’t feel that he had my back. I never felt like he was my ally.
Wrapping It Up
The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?
1. My Relationship with GOD
2. My Relationship with Others
- Putting Your Spouse First
- Your Kids Second
- Everyone Else After those
3. I would first need several billion dollars (you said no Road Blocks). Then I’d slowly give it all away. A bit like the old (very old) ‘The Millionaire’ TV show of the late ’50s (only, with a Christ-centered bent).
4. I’d like to volunteer with some young folks at the Mac Laren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn, OR
5. Remember the ’80s TV show ‘Highway to Heaven?’ I’d like to be either the angel of the human helper. Fun stuff!
