S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results
Thank you Matthew Butler for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Last year I co-taught John Terry’s bible study class. Every other week, when John wasn’t doing his normal survey of the Bible study, I lead a study on Prayers. This study was primarily focused on praying for the Search Team, MVCs future pastor, and the congregation as it when through the pastor-less period. The study evolved into a general study on prayer, seeking God’s will, and discussion of revival/renewal. I enjoyed leading the class but often found it very frustrating because of certain cantankerous group members.
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I always try to go above and beyond simply tithing. I enjoy providing supplies to various missions, food, or Christmas drives. I try to manage my money so that I am able to give additional resources when special needs arise in the church congregation or surrounding community.
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am always glad to help with menial tasks like cleaning up after a fellowship, doing yard work, etc. Sometime I feel most comfortable when I can quietly work “behind the scenes.”
[H]eart
1. Outdoors stuff like hunting, fishing, camping, birding, and gardening.
2. I really love my job. I do research and statistic on wildlife conservation issues.
3. I have to spend time in God’s word each day or the day is just flat. Seems like a “Sunday School” answer but it’s true.
I tend to get along with most age groups. I do find that I am often attracted to older people and get along better with older people.
Life groups and making sure members are growing in Christ. Making sure members (I mean partners) are equipped to share the Gospel.

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God
Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.
Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility
Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.
Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace
[E]xperience
Grew up in the church. Was saved, repented of my sins and confessed Jesus Lord, during a revival when I was in middle school. I was strongly committed to Christ while in middle and high school but began to drift away while in college until I found myself far from God when I moved to Albuquerque. God began drawing me back to Himself through subtle promptings like Gospel songs on XM’s bluegrass junction or old Bible movies on the Trinity Network. When I moved up to the East Mountains God had nudged me back into His Word with questions like “that movie kind messed that up, how did that really go down?” I started going to MVC after moving to the East Mountains and realized the folly of my ways and rededicate myself to Christ.
Life Group Teaching at MVC during 2016-2017.
Mission Trips 1994-1996 to Iowa and Colorado from FBC Waldron, Arkansas.
Youth Pastor Search Committee at FBC Waldron, Arkansas, circa 1995.
Graduate school at Texas Tech University – Ph.D. in Wildlife Science.
Mentoring 8 graduate students.
At just the right times (but different times) in my life God gave me 3 friends (Brady McGee, Dan McDonald, Chris Watt) that had strong faith. Their demonstrations of faith kept me from drifting too far.
Marrying Becca.
Leading my graduate adviser’s lab (this was my Post Doc) when he was dying of pancreatic cancer.
Watching my grandma suffer from alzheimer’s and dementia.
My brother and his family getting seduced by the cult, Shepherds Chapel.
