[H]eart

1. Being a host to friends in my home.

NOTE: My husband and I used to be host to a small group when we were going to our old church. Sadly, our old church had some divisions and slowly there were less and less of a congregation. Ultimately, the church totally dissolved and, what remained of the congregation, merged with another church.

2. My husband and I love to travel when we can.

3. I am attending a ladies Bible study on Mondays right now and enjoy being with them as we learn about our latest study. It is a chance to get to know each other and have time of fellowship. Our latest study is Judges.

Retired! I worked for 23 years in the billing department analyzing and interpreting legal documents so they could be loaded in the computer system at the company I worked for.

Prior to that, I used to work in the accounting department in accounts payable/receivable and in payroll.

Early in my career, I worked at a couple of local financial institutions.

I am still trying to determine if I have any talents to speak of. That remains a mystery to this day (I am 66 yrs old). 🙂

As for skills, I’m not sure if you are talking work skills, but here goes. I can use a computer, but have to be taught how to use any special unique programming. I am able to use excel and word to some extent. I can type, use a 10-key, file.

[E]xperience

I came from an abusive, alcoholic home for the first 9 years of my life. After that, there was just abuse, but no alcohol until I turned 18. I got to the point that I saw myself as unwanted and always a victim. To protect myself, I swore that I would not let anyone in my life. I became very rebellious during my teenage years and determined that I would be my own “boss” and live my life my way. However, little did I realize that the Lord was drawing me ever closer to Himself. Even during those turbulent years, I had attended church off and on. The one thing I had longed for all my life was for a family who loved and supported one another. I seemed to have found that in the church I attended so I accepted Jesus into my heart and was Baptized at the age of 12. The only problem was I had no training about my beliefs other than what I learned in Sunday school and what the pastor preached on. Then we moved away and it took a while before I finally went back to church but it was not until I had my own kids many years later. It was then that I discovered the love and acceptance at church that I was missing in my life. I believe it was the Lord’s sweet Spirit that I was experiencing at church and I rededicated myself to Him. I even decided to get baptized again because I was grown at that time. Even my dad came to my baptism that day. It was a very special moment. I am so grateful for what the Lord has done in my life. I see His hand of protection and guidance all along life’s way. I am so very thankful for His loving grace and mercy.

My high school drama teacher was also a personal counselor who would meet with me and talk during school hours. She encouraged me so much that I felt like I could do what I needed to do in life. I will never forget her as long as I live.

The small group of “seasoned saints” that I was a part of nurtured and encouraged me as I grew in Christ. I think I was the youngest one in the group.

My mother-n-law took me in when I was a wayward teenager after I left home. In her kindness and love of family, she accepted and helped direct me in life.

Even in the church that I grew the most, I found it difficult to fit in with the ladies ministry. I felt out of place because I saw them as so refined and dignified which I knew I was wasn’t. I still went to several retreats, but still I felt awkward. Not sure what was going on with me to feel this way. I guess that is why it’s easy for me to reach out to someone else who may feel “out of place”.

When I hear of another woman who has experienced abuse as a child, I can immediately relate to her painful experiences. I often find I want to share my own experiences so she can know she’s not alone.

I accepted the responsibility to help out with the pre-schoolers on Wednesday nights but was not shown what to do. This to me is a very wrong approach. If I volunteer my time with something, please show me exactly what is expected, where things are, what is allowed and what is not, and let’s not forget about emergency practices.
