S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Jason Young for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Administration (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
…I am able to clearly define goals and objectives (while at work, ordinary life, completing special projects, etc.) and then organize/prioritize/communicate/turn thoughts into action.

#2 Gift, Serving (53%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
…I get gratification from being a part of something bigger than myself and helping others (but it depends on the type of service, too).

#3 Gift, Evangelism (43%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
…I am a people person (the exception being children—I was raised as an only child, and we do not have kids of our own, so I have no experience relating to kids) and not shy about expressing my thoughts/opinions [especially when I am well informed] on a matter. Evangelism may eventually be my strongest Spiritual Gift (as I continue to grow/build my faith and relationship with God); however, I am not there yet (I know my current limitations)…I feel I have so much Biblical learning to do, but when ready, would likely be able to relate to adults that, like me, were not raised with faith/religion and came to God and Jesus Christ later in life (I’m turning 40 this year).

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. TRAVEL. Exploring and learning about new places/culture/people brings joy and fulfillment to my life.

2. DOG LOVER. I love ALL animals, but I am primarily a dog lover! (My wife and I keep threatening to volunteer at a local animal shelter.)

3. TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK. Serving, contributing, and being a part of something bigger than myself (perhaps it is Park Valley Church)!

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

Preferably competent/capable/self-sufficient adults.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Unsure (?). I am new to faith and the church.

Your Primary was ‘The Otter’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Arguably, I am still on my way to becoming a Christian…I was introduced to faith later in life and have been on my own faith journey for 2-3 years (with the last 12-18 months being the most deliberate).

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

U.S. Marine Corps

Living overseas for nearly 5 years at an influential age.

Meeting my wife (we have been together 18 years…married for 7…and she has an incredible life story that has shaped me).

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Those experiencing or dealing with grief. I lost my father unexpectedly in November 2017, and then 7 weeks later, I lost my older brother unexpectedly (…and that was late December 2017).

Physical therapy or rehabilitation. I had two shoulder surgeries in the span of 18 months, so I know what it is like to be patient and try to come back from a sports injury, etc.

Transitioning from the Marine Corps to civilian life.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Volunteer at an animal shelter or start an animal shelter/sanctuary myself.

4. Get smarter about health and fitness AND spread the word: Health is wealth!

5. Missionary trips
