S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results
Thank you Emily Martin for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I’m strong in this area due to being in managerial & marketing roles for 21 years (and my BA is in Business Mgt). Also, I have been in leadership roles in various churches since high school, college groups, and ministry roles in churches and all leadership roles within the local level of Aglow Int’l. (I served in each of the VP roles & Pres role, and worship leader role in MN & OK for about 18 years, total.)
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
Same as above in helps and leadership roles.
Growing up on a farm, I guess helping my parents and sisters with the chores and animals and all the fun farm work made me appreciate serving. I also realize that hard work is just a part of life, and it has its rewards.
I also enjoyed caring for my aging grandma (daily living routine stuff) when I was in junior high before she moved into a nursing facility.
This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I enjoy helping others and bringing encouragement. The best way to do that is share the truths of God’s Word with them. I used to co-lead a young adult group, and have had a few women’s bible studies in my home in the past. I’ve spoken in front of small and large groups before, from college through current. (InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and Circle K (Kiwanis) President roles in college. I even spoke in front of 2,000+ at a National Aglow conference about 17 years ago, (for about 10 minutes only). I was part of a generational Aglow session speaking from the young woman perspective while exhorting the wisdom I received from the more seasoned and mature women of Aglow. (I was in a leadership role regarding that area in MN.)
[H]eart
1. I love to worship God! I love to sing!
2. Encouraging/exhorting others in everyday life (complimenting them, giving them an encouraging word). It’s amazing how much just a simple smile or hello will help someone’s attitude change.
3. Praying with others and encouraging them (exhort or teach) in the truths of God’s Word
(Personally, I also love walking and watching movies!)

[A]bilities
Audience Development Manager at a media (publishing) company
This means I do extensive marketing (copy-writing, editing, proofing, email marketing), some social media marketing, and extensive project management, analysis, budgeting (sticking to a budget), and meeting predetermined goals for the year. I work with little supervision since my goals are set for the year, and I create the budgets to fulfill my magazine audience (circulation/subscriber) goals each year.
This also means I’m proficient in Word, Excel, Google docs, database software programs, PowerPoint, and I can type 70 wmp, which is fast! π
1) Recruiter at Manpower, Inc. as my first job out of college (interviewed, trained, orientations). Did the same type of work during my business internship during my last year of college too.
2) To make extra money and to be around more people, I did some companion care work and some CNA-type work for older adults several years ago. For about 4 or 5 years total.
3) Cashiering and customer service work at JCPenney Children’s Department (and other depts) while in college.
1) Sing (soprano, 1st & 2nd) but also have sung alto at times.
2) Piano – can read music but am a beginner and am rusty. I took a couple years piano with Amber Warner a few years back. I can play basic cords which I know is what the secondary-piano player does at Rhema, to give you an idea. I’m not at the point to lead worship from the piano. I was in the intermediate piano group during school or worship, but that meant I was with the beginners all year, so I didn’t learn anything new, unfortunately. I wasn’t advanced enough to play by chord to be in the advanced group with Tim Hall.
3) I took some vocal lessons before Rhema worship and after (along with what we do in worship program). My plan is to take more vocal and piano lessons but Covid hasn’t helped this process yet. Hopefully later this year.
4) I can still play flute, but would have to re-train my ‘ear’ to play by ear like I used to during my time on the A/G worship team. I could play some by chord.
5) I’m not apprehensive to learn new computer/software programs to help with the administration side of the ministry.
At the A/G church, I was a small group leader for young women, teaching on topics such as singleness, purity, healthy relationships/dating. I was also a conference speaker on this topic (singleness, young adult) at that time.
I’ve also taught at Aglow in large group & small group settings, mostly on In Him type topics or vision/destiny topics.
My most valuable asset is my positive and outgoing attitude and strong leadership capabilities. But yet, I love working as part of a team member and following the Leader/s to accomplish an end-goal.

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God
Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.
Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable
Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.
Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline
[E]xperience
I was born-again at the age of 12 at a Holy Spirit Conference (through the Charismatic Lutheran Movement) in the Minneapolis area. I always believed in Jesus and loved him as I have been in weekly church my entire life. But I didn’t know what it meant to be born-again or that I needed to be saved until that conference. I wasn’t baptized in the Holy Spirit until Oct 1999, not from lack of praying for it through this charismatic movement, but I didn’t realize that I had to ‘do the speaking’. I was waiting on Him to take over my tongue. Thankfully, He straightened out my thinking!
1) President roles (college ministry and secular group) and in Tulsa Aglow
2) Various leadership roles (public relations, finance, worship, admin/secretary)
3) Worship leader in Aglow for three years (monthly) – vocals only. Not piano.
4) I grew up in the Lutheran church, so I did a lot of helps ministry in high school and college such as church Secretary, janitorial, Sunday School Teacher, and Youth Ministry Leader for 5 years.
5) For the 5 years that I was in the A/G church in Duluth:
Worship Team, Vocals-Soprano, (Wed. Night Service) for a year
Worship Team, Flute instrumentalist (Sun morning service) 2yrs
Young Adult Ministry Co-Leader – 3yrs
Prayer Team & Prophetic Prayer Team member – 2yrs (Sun am)
Women’s Ministry Leader and small-group leader/teacher – 2yrs
6) While at Rhema, I helped with children’s ministry (infants to age 5 only) about once a month, Sun am. I was also part of the Synergy Altar Care Team for a couple years when I was single.
7) Daniel and I were leaders of one of Rhema’s nursing home teams for four years. I didn’t do much more than that due to my involvement in Aglow and my job.
8) I was part of the Rhema Choir for four years, 1st Soprano (sometimes 2nd Soprano) At that time, my range was 3.5 octaves. I definitely want to continue vocal lessons again this year.
9) Graduated from Rhema in 07′ from the Pastoral program.
10) Graduate from Rhema in 08′ from the Worship program.
11) Domata School of Ministry, graduate in 15′
Growing up on a farm (caring for animals, having great responsibility from a young age)
Professional alpine ski (downhill) racer with USSA. I love skiing and miss it very much.
I really did have loving parents. They provided for the three of us daughters well. We always were told and shown that we were loved. But the emotional abuse and sometimes performance-based pressure (ski racing, my grades, private piano lessons, etc) was negative.
I had a very domineering and verbally/emotionally and sometimes physically abusive Dad growing up. I’m so thankful for our relationship now, since after college. He has grown spiritually, and of course no longer sees me as a child nor treats me that way. (And Daniel did set him straight privately in an area when we were first married, so we are good!) The Lord has healed me so much over the years from that. That’s a story in itself! I’m thankful that my parents are still married and that my childhood was good overall. I always felt loved and was told that I was loved.
Because of the abuse, my older sister ran away (thankfully they found her in a day) when I was 11. She then moved to live with her friend because she was so hurt and understandably rebellious. My parents allowed it so that she wouldn’t run-away again. So this means I didn’t really grow up with my older sister at all (she was 5 years older). This resulted in me acting more like the oldest sibling to my younger sister. But I still have plenty of the middle-child peacemaker characteristics too. π I have a great relationship with both of my sisters since college to current. The Lord restores!
Lastly, as it ties to the other two, my relationship with my Mom was more on a superficial level. I totally recognized that she was being abused constantly herself, but later in college I realized that she was still the adult that didn’t protect us three girls. Also, we constantly were working on ‘farm stuff’ with my Dad outdoors, so that means I didn’t spend a lot of time learning skills you’d normally learn from your Mom. Granted, it could be she wasn’t ever crazy about cooking, so she didn’t teach me. Maybe that’s why I love learning new things about cooking and baking, myself. She grew up Christian Scientist before they both got born-again and were part of the Lutheran church. So her stoic personality and being a strong introvert might contribute to that. I know her parents were both stoic and didn’t show a lot of emotion. Of course, she always told me she loved me and we kissed and hugged. But it was just different. I guess that happens in abusive dysfunctional households. Again, I have a great relationship with my Mom currently. I have no hurt feelings or unforgiveness toward my parents anymore. My former Pastor in MN helped me walk through a lot of that as he was a trained counselor too.
