[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Spending time with family. I stay in touch with my extended family and we see our kids and grandchildren several times a week.

2. Attending mass and facilitating my small faith sharing group keeps me grounded.

3. The pandemic has put a stop to my participating in various musical groups but I play piano daily and practice my sax several days a week.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

Capable, intelligent people.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Due to the pandemic, I have not participated in the music ministry but that is where my passion resided for many years. I spent a great deal of time preparing for and participating in those activities, sometimes at the expense of family. Now that I’ve been away from it for nearly a year, I’m reassessing my priorities and wondering if I will return with the same commitment as before.

My current vocation:

I retired five years ago after managing engineering projects and leading teams. My wife and I currently spend four days a week with our grandchildren. Our kids also keep me busy with projects in their homes, everything from replacing and repairing plumbing and electrical fixtures, building closet shelves, framing pictures, building doll furniture, etc., etc. Whatever the project, Grampa’s the go-to guy. My dad taught me a lot and helped me with everything from automotive issues to construction projects. I’m happy to repay the favor with my kids.

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Otter’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

Otter- Otters are very social creature. Otter personalities love people. They enjoys being popular and influencing and motivating others. Otter can sometimes be hurt when people do not like them. Otter personalities usually have lots of friends, but not deep relationships. They love to goof-off. (They are notorious for messy rooms.) Otters like to hurry and finish jobs. (Jobs are not often done well.) The otter personality is like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh.

Strength: People person, open, positive
Weakness: Talks too much, too permissive
Limitation: Remembering past commitments, follow through with discipline

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I am a cradle Catholic. My father was Catholic, my mother was not. I’ve always attended Sunday mass.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

I’ve been a member of St. Dennis Parish in Madison since 1980. I was active in the religious education program from about 1985 through 1992. I was active in the Music Ministry from 1993 through 2020, singing in choirs and cantoring for weekly mass, funerals and weddings. I’ve been in the Small Faith Sharing Group program since 2015, facilitating my own group since 2017. In 2018 and 2019 I was involved in the church and campus renovation project, chairing the Liturgical Furnishings committee and coordinating daily activities with contractors.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

I was raised in a functional family by hard-working, capable parents. I still communicate daily with my siblings. My wife and I raised three kids who are now raising kids of their own.

I worked for one company for 35 years. My work was interesting and challenging. I retired in good standing and still have close ties with the company and the people I worked with.

My experiences in the music ministry at St. Dennis and also in several other musical groups have given me confidence and have provided me with some of my best friends.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

When I was eleven, our house and neighborhood were destroyed by a tornado. Several neighbors and friends died. My parents demonstrated how to overcome extreme obstacles and survive traumatic experiences.

In my late teens, I took some unnecessary risks and got into some serious trouble. From that I learned to think of consequences before acting.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. That my kids and their kids become active Christians.

4. To purchase the family homestead from the multitude of relatives that currently share in the ownership.

5. To work towards reducing my carbon footprint and inspiring others to do the same in order to slow the effects of climate change. I worry about what kind of world our descendants are inheriting.
