S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Lori Huffman for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Evangelism (87%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I was always involved in Evangelism in my 1st church after I became born again, and this included going door-to-door. It made a foundation in my for sharing the Word.

#2 Gift, Serving (71%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have always been a “servant,” and not necessarily always in a good way. I have to be careful to make sure I am not demeaning myself by my serving, but I love to serve God and my church family!

#3 Gift, Teaching (71%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I love being able to teach someone about God. Even if it doesn’t bring them to the Truth and to God, I always hope it plants a seed. I have had such good godly teachers put in my life, I love being able to give back. Having my 1st home group was a step out of my comfort zone that God nudged me to do. I am so glad I did!

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Serve God in any way I can, even if it is just opening a door for someone, as He said, as we treat others, we treat Him.

2. I love being with my family as much as I can. I went through a period of time when I was involved in Alpha when it completely took over my life, and my family suffered and were not real happy with it. It took a while before I realized what was happening, and I promised God, while serving Him as well as I could, not to put my family aside for it.

3. My heart beats for those who need a hug, a word of encouragement, a prayer because I have been blessed with many people in my life who are always there for me when I need that as well.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I have worked with MR/DD folks from kids to seniors. I loved working with them because they only know how to love. There is no bias or prejudice in them! I have also worked a lot with seniors, and when I see how much just a “good morning” can put a smile on their face, it warms my heart. So many elderly people have been put in nursing homes and facilities and just forgotten, or left by their families, it was my privilege to be part of their lives.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Right now I am just beginning to come out of my “comfort zone” of being just a church-goer to a church-doer that it is going to take some time for me to answer this. I enjoyed being part of Alpha for many years because I saw lives change so drastically and all for Christ and the better. I am open to any issues or needs that are at hand, but I am not sure I would be good at all of them….that’s what will take time to figure out.

[A]bilities

My current vocation:

Medical transcription.

Other jobs I have experience in:

Administration, office manager, Medicare/Medicaid. Nursing home and MR/DD hands on.

Special talents/skills that I have:

I feel I am compassionate and can relate to someone who needs someone to just talk to, or whatever else they may need. I took one of my MR/DD clients to my family’s home for Easter one year because she never talked about any family in her life, and we never saw any while she was in our care. Aside from trying to steal the silverware, it was a wonderful experience for all of us!! She was too cute!

I also have a lot of years of office and managerial experience. I owned my own transcription business in the early 1980s. When I worked in offices, it was always in administration/management. I was the Assistant Mgr at the first outside transcription company I worked for. I was also the director of medical records at LARC, which is Lake Area Recovery Center, for alcohol and drug rehab, and domestic violence.

I have taught a class or seminar on:

As human resources director, I did orientation with groups of new hires in nursing homes. I had to do policies and practices with them as well.

I feel my most valuable personal asset is:

Compassion; organization.

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Retriever’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

After many years of being away from God and church altogether, my daughter brought me back to Christ after her boyfriend’s mother brought her to Christ.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Alpha. Experience in organizing and orchestrating situational experience for people who have questions about God, their relationship with Him, or pretty much no knowledge of Him at all.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Alpha. Made me not judge a book by it’s cover! Also made me optimistic and hopeful about the possibility of anyone coming to Christ! Being there at the end of the sessions and watching people surrender to Christ is just the most rewarding experience I have ever had. I make sure I give the glory to God, because it is His!

I have a best friend who is the most godly person I have ever know. But her loyalty and love are beyond anything I have ever experienced in my life. She shares so much of her knowledge with me and teaches me things that I couldn’t learn anywhere else, I am sure, because it is on such a personal level. She has given me such an insight into the love and longing Christ has for us, and I am grateful for her every day. But we can also go places together and laugh and have fun like little kids! I love her!

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Physical, mental, sexual abuse at the hands of my first husband. I can understand women who go through this with great empathy. The first thing I can understand is why they are still in the situation. It took me 26 years to walk away, but before that, I just thought “that’s how things are.” I want to share with women going through those things so much so that I am writing a book to share my experiences.

Low self esteem, beginning with a very dominant mother and growing up in a home with very little outward expression of love, even when we were very young. I never knew I was “worth” anything, because I was told so much I wasn’t. I know now how much I am worth, and I can contribute to positive outcomes. I still have to remind myself a lot. It’s probably something that will always be difficult for me to see in myself, but I can see it quickly in someone else and encourage them, and love on them.

Just simply trying to be someone with worth. That has made me strive to be the best at whatever I take on. I have to “color inside the lines,” at all times, but I am learning that things don’t always have to be perfect to be worthwhile.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. To write a book to share my experiences as a fallen Christian, an abused woman/wife, and hopefully impact someone else’s life and let them know they ARE loved by God, and they are worth having good things in life, not just material things, but loving relationships and being able to give that love back, which is sometimes very hard to do.

4. I would like to be a mentor to another woman, or women, the way I have been mentored. There is so much more to life beyond being a wife and mother that God wants us to do/experience, and sometimes we don’t even realize that exists!

5. I would like to work with the elderly or MR/DD folks again.
