This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am and have always been a teacher. I teach all the time in almost all my encounters with people. I have to hold myself back to keep from teaching when it is socially inappropriate! Funny thing… almost every answer to every spiritual question begins with, “In the beginning God created the world ….” I really want people to understand the whole context of the answer to their questions!

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I recently wrote a check for $16,000.00 to a missionary because God told me to. It was not hard at all. The hardest thing was wondering if I was shafting my kids of their inheritance and possibly setting up to be a financial burden to them in old age. But I called my son, Carlos, and asked him if he minded if I gave away all my money and he had to support me in my old age. He laughed and said he had known all his life he was going to support me in my old age — I should give whatever I wanted to God!

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
This morning one of my renters, Brandon, made the comment that he never had a conversation with me that didn’t result in a valuable insight gained. I thanked him, and he stressed over and over that there wasn’t anyone else he could make that statement of, and he didn’t want me to take it lightly. This made me very happy. I want to be a person whose words are wise and helpful and encouraging.

[H]eart

1. I love to minister with my kids, and be a part of their ministry for Christ.

2. I love it when someone consults me for counsel and I have words of Life for them.

3. I love to enter into deep prayer with people, or alone.

My own kids and adopted kids, hands down. I do best with young adults and teens. Especially boys, for some reason.

Discipleship within the church. I worry that the salvation we proffer is too cheap and too shallow. I don’t understand why there isn’t more concentration of systematic discipleship in our church.

I run a driving school and own two houses that I rent rooms in. I am waiting for God to show me what is next.

I have a Master’s and years of experience teaching ESL and training americans to teach ESL. I homeschooled 4 kids from kindergarten through High School, which familiarizes me with all school subjects. I did auto claims for State Farm Insurance.

I play guitar and sing. I have taught public speaking. I was trained in small group leadership and led the small group ministry at my college InterVarsity chapter.

[E]xperience

I loved God as long as I can remember. I was raised Roman Catholic and I loved the Blessed Sacrament (Jesus), the Virgin Mary, and God the Father. I gave my full heart to God in the 6th grade and received His full love. From then I expected to be a nun. I was Baptized in the Holy Spirit in the 9th grade through some Catholic Charismatics. In Catholic High school and college I participated in Young Life and InterVarsity, and then on into the local church.

My husband and I prepared to be career missionaries by studying at Columbia International University, in South Carolina. I taught there for two years while my husband was finishing a Bachelor’s. I served on the board of M.O.P.S. when I was a young mom and led a small group. I served in Prison Ministry to Juveniles for 3 years while my kids were teens.

When we lost our missionary career, I almost lost my faith. After 4 dark years, I entered into spiritual direction with an Anglican priest, Phil Ashey. Through his ministry to me, I came alive again with a better relationship to Christ than I had ever had before.

My best job years were teaching at Columbia Bible College. I taught 5 courses leading to a TEFL Certificate, and arranged and supervised field education. It was incredibly rewarding working with those young missionaries-to-be and helping prepare them to serve on the field.

I have many competing memories to put in this slot, all having to do with the heavenly joy of ministering with my kids. I’ll describe one … Carlos, Toby, Michelle, and Tiffany cooperate every year to host a Christ-centered New Year’s Eve party. This particular year we were coming home from field games, walking across the pontoon bridge under the stars. I was in the middle of a train of 75ish young adults, all talking and laughing and singing and holding hands and goofing off. I was the only “adult” privileged and called to be present. My kids were tag teaming eachother to serve and facilitate the wonderful party.

Because of Lyme, I know what it is to lose your mind to dementia. I have been inside a damaged brain, and come out of it. I understand how it feels.

Also because of Lyme, I know what it is to be disabled by fatigue and pain for years. I don’t judge the weak and ineffectual because I was weak and ineffectual for literally a decade.

Because of my divorce, I know what it is to be divorced, and I no longer blame people as if it is easy to have a good marriage. I understand.

Wrapping It Up

3. My #1 thing would be to go to a YWAM base or some other similar setting where I could teach and mentor young missionaries and live in community.

4. Funny that this isn’t first, but my second choice would be to participate with my kids in Carlos’s dream of “Amalgaministries”, which is his dream of a family based church plant, intentional community, which would encompass work, family, school, and ministry.

5. If I couldn’t fail, I would like to have a loving marriage, where my husband loved God with all his heart, and loved me second. I have never experienced a romantic loving marriage. I would love to have a spiritual as well as physical and emotional connection with someone.
