S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Jennifer Dahlin for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

#1 Gift, Administration (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I’m good at working and communicating with others. I can multi-task and organize well, including running and organizing children’s programs.

#2 Gift, Giving (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I enjoy giving my time when there is a need and will benefit others. Giving of time (and of things we have/can do) is more of my thing than giving of money. I want to be actively involved in giving instead of just writing a check (while that is an important form of giving as well).

#3 Gift, Mercy Showing (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have compassion for those who are hurting/in need. If there is a way I can help, then I will. This is more specifically related to families with a medically fragile child, or children who do not come from a good home environment (or are in foster).

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. Spending quality time with my kids and family.

2. Random acts of kindness. I love being able to bless someone when they are least expecting it.

3. Spending time in nature, surrounded by God’s creation.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

Kids/youth.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

Within our own church the children’s ministry program (as a whole) is quite disorganized and frustrating. From an oncology perspective I’d love to connect with others who are just starting out with a new diagnosis to be a support. We also have a puppy that my husband and I have talked about training and getting certified (someday) to be able to visit nursing homes and more specifically hospitals. I think it’d be a great ministry to be able to connect with other parents locally who are going through treatment.

Your Primary was ‘The Lion’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Grew up in a Christian home going to a small church. At church camp one summer I felt God speaking to me (I didn’t know He was speaking to me at the time). Long story, short, I gave my life to Christ at camp and when I did, I felt the most amazing, unconditional love wash over me at that moment.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Grace Evangelical Free Church for 10+ years. I helped with AWANA, VBS, played in orchestra, and ran a youth sports program.

Centennial Evangelical Free Church for 3-4 years. I helped in nursery and filled in with the Children’s Ministry if needed.

Refuge Evangelical Free Church. We have only started attending this church during treatment so it’s been difficult to get real involved. I’ve partially helped with VBS and AWANA.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My parents. My parents have modeled what it’s like to have a great marriage.

A few years back (5 or 6 years ago). We took in twin teenage girls (and their mom) who were going through a difficult time. Dealing with the mom would probably been the negative part of the entire situation. (see below) After the mom left, the girls remained living with us for a while and we felt like we were really able to connect. We only wish we had custody of them and that they could have remained living with us much longer.

When I was 16 I flew to France and lived with a family (whom I had never met) for a month. It was through the local Rotary program.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

We had a stillborn daughter.

Having a son diagnosed with cancer at age 3 and go through treatment for 3.5 years.

Dealing with the mom of the teenage girls from above. They were trying to leave an abusive/drug addictive husband/father. We wanted to act as a stepping stone so she could get on her feet and the three of them could remain together (the girls had been sleeping at a different friends house every week). We had set goals aside for the mom to meet since our fear was that we’d be enabling her instead of helping her. After a few months we ended up asking her to move out since she was not making progress with becoming independent (among other things). We’ve learned that our heart is not in helping adults going through difficulties, but helping the kids who are affected.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. Have a gigantic house on lots of land with lots of animals where we can adopt and raise a million kiddos.

4. Create a retreat/resort for families with a kid who is medically complex.

5. Travel everywhere! Teach my kids not from books, but from going to places and experiencing things for themselves.
