#1 Gift, Teaching (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I feel teaching is a calling and that I have been called. I have devoted my life to teaching in public school and church and have been blessed to have opportunities to make a difference in lives.

#2 Gift, Administration (78%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am able to conduct meetings, lead groups of people, and accomplish what needs to be done. I can ask others to do tasks for which they did not volunteer. I can understand steps that need to be done to accomplish a purpose. I am not shy about speaking up or even disagreeing when I feel strongly about something, but if my ideas are not adopted, I can accept and lead in the ideas that were agreed upon.

#3 Gift, Evangelism (75%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am willing to speak out for Christ and welcome opportunities to do so when others seek me out. I conduct myself and give signals (wearing a cross, carrying a study book, smiling and speaking to strangers) that I am available to talk and answer questions about my faith. However, I am not good at seeking out strangers to talk to. I ask God to send people to me.

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. teaching

2. coming up with ideas to implement as programs and seeing them accomplished

3. being with other people of all ages

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I believe I can work with all ages. My stamina dictates that I can be active with children for only a short period of time. Although most of my work is with people who look like me and have my same outlook, I believe I can work with all people regardless of age, gender, race and other differences. I do best with others who are willing to do things — discuss, work together, accomplish tasks.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

growing the church
life-long learning and spiritual growth
being the people Christ asks us to be
Sunday school and Bible study

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I grew into my Christianity from childhood. I enjoyed Sunday school and church, was baptized and joined the Methodist Church at 12 years old, and have been active ever since. My spiritual journey has been uninterrupted and my knowledge and faith in Christ have grown throughout my life. One reason I was anxious to retire was to be more involved, and I hope to continue growing, learning, and serving throughout all my life.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

I viewed my 33 years of teaching in public education as ministry.
I have supported and worked with many United Methodist ministries — choir, education, UMW, annual conference delegate — at local, district and conference levels.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Marrying a devoted Christian husband

Raising 2 children, one difficult, strong-willed son and an “easy” daughter, who have become remarkable adults

Being part of 2 church mergers, one easy and one very difficult, to the realization of what it means to be part of the family of Christ

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Murders of my sister and brother-in-law

Sudden loss of my only other sister, making me the last person of my childhood family still living.

Divorces of my parents (who remarried), and both children and factor of abuse in those relationships.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. To be involved in a growing, active, spiritually-oriented, dedicated congregation at Servants of Christ

4. To be active and influential in lives of growing Christians, first of all among my family

5. To live a balanced life

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I grew up in a Christian home. Church was my second home. We were always there helping or attending something. I thought if I followed God and obeyed Him, nothing bad would ever happen in my life. When I was 13, my cousin was killed in a motorcycle accident. I was so confused. I thought I had done something wrong, otherwise, why would God have taken my cousin? About 6 months after that, our youth group attended a youth conference. The speaker talked about why bad things happen to us, even as Christians. At the end He did an alter call. It was then that I realized that God wasn’t punishing me for anything. And that I wanted a relationship with Him, more than just making my life perfect. My relationship with God had to be more than that.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Prairie Hill Free Church – I served at Prairie Hill for many many years. I helped with VBS every year for about 6-8 years. I helped in the nursery, childcare for events, etc. Most recently I helped with the SR High youth for 4 years, 1 year of that being an intern running the SR High program.

Love Inc – I volunteered with them for about 1 year.
