My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I grow up in church, but not necessarily with a relationship with God. I definitely knew who He was. Through out college the more life challenges I experienced, the more I would seek who He was. I always knew I was different from others and I had a calling on my life. At the age of 19 I decided to give my life to Him wholeheartedly. This has been a journey, but I’ve appreciate every learning moment.

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I became a committed Christian when I asked God to rescue me from a living hell and He did.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

VBS leader, San Diego 1983-1989

Youth leader, PASDAC, 1999-2003

Women’s ministry leader, 2007- 2014
Elder 2005–

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My experiences as a Navy wife , especially becoming friends with people from other faith walks, broadened my perspective on what it means to be a Christian.

Having to hobnob with the rich and famous— though often taking me out of my comfort zone—has given me an insight and opportunity to love that I never even imagined.

God has opened doors for me to teach, giving me jobs at colleges and universities, despite my commitment to uprooting my family to move with my husband every 3-5 years for 27 years.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Dropping out of a doctoral program ABD, all but dissertation. I never thought the mere physical, could be an obstacle. This experience gave me a greater compassion for the physically challenged.

Learning that I had a gay son shook my world, but it opened a whole new way of seeing and gave me compassion for people with same-sex attractions.

Being in a marriage for 45 years with someone almost as strong-willed as I am has been challenging. However, I can reach out to those who are hurting— I know for sure it’s not easy— but it’s doable.

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was a young girl my parents didn’t go to church so my friend invited me one Sunday. She went to the Salvation Army Church and they started picking me up every Sunday morning. It developed a early love for the Lord that followed me my whole life. I didn’t continue there because I moved many times in my young life but that is where it started and continued with me being baptized together with my daughter in the ocean May 2015.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Meeting my coach Blondie Clayton she is teaching how to be a better Christian woman and discern who the Lord wants me to be. She teaches me that who I was yesterday isn’t who I have to be today. That fear doesn’t have to hold me in bondage any longer.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

My childhood abuse absolutely shaped who I am today and for years it held me in bondage. I was scared and angry. However now God has helped me to heal and has shown me about forgiveness and compassion because of our Lord and Savior. I can better understand now both sides of a situation.
