My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I grew up Christian, but didn’t really get it or feel it until this year. Then all the sudden I heard this song that said basically it’s not about keeping the rules and that the works already been done, and I realized being Christian isn’t about straining to not sin, it’s about being loved. And then I heard a sermon that faith isn’t some mystical feeling only certain people feel, you just have to believe in what Christ did, and then it clicked and I’ve been passionate ever since.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Worked in a nursery during women’s Bible study

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My papa being apart of my life.

Going through a very rough patch with my best friend of 10 years, and upon gaining new faith, felt convicted to forgive her. So I did, but I prayed to God, if I’m going to forgive her, you have to help me bring her to you. (She was an atheist) Eventually, I saved her from committing suicide one day, and that night preached and showed her Jesus Christ and the gospel of Grace, and convinced her to give Christianity a try, and about a week or two later, gave her a Beginners Bible I found in perfect condition on the side of the road, and had been saving just for her, and within a week of giving it to her, she read the beginning sections about accepting Jesus into your life and said the prayer, and had a beautiful Come to Jesus moment where she physically felt the weight lift from her after she said the prayer, and came to me crying, saying that I saved her life. I told her Jesus did.

This one is going to sound crazy, but I exorcised demons from my husband. I put hands on him, and prayed, and watched his body contract and scratch itself and eventually growl at me. Then he just collapsed. I finished praying, and when he came to, he thought he had been sleeping and the last thing he remembered was talking about getting him an exorcism and then starting a YouTube video of a prayer to cast out demons. Ever since our relationship has been getting better and better, instead of getting worse and worse, like it was. He’s becoming the man I married again, rather than the mean, angry man he had almost completely become.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

My mother’s drug addiction when I was a child, causing me to go through foster care and living with relatives while she was in jail, being torn from her arms by police and watching my brother be taken away from her for ten years. Developing relationships with foster sibling who were going through similar situations, watching most of them come to similar or worse fates than their parents as adults.

Watching my mother find Jesus and become this awesome mother and Christian, to eventually slowly be taken over by addiction once again. Thanking God for years that my siblings didn’t have to go through what I did as a kid, just to watch them now go through a similar situation as teens, only worse because they have to also watch my parents’ marriage suffer.

Suffering from dermatillomania most if not all my life, and praying it never happened to my siblings or children, and now my sister has trichotillomania and has to shave her head to keep from pulling out ALL of her hair, and my 2 year old daughter not able to leave bug bites and scabs alone, to the point where she mindlessly scratches and picks at MY scabs..

Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I became a Christian early in my life at age 9. My home life was at times chaotic and there was a lot of drama on the inside, while most thought we were the perfect family from the outside. I didn’t have anyone to really lead me in the Christian faith except to occasionally take me to church on Sunday, so I made some bad decisions early on. It was in one of those decisions that God really spoke to me and I rededicated my life to him in my early 20’s.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Youth Group leader, Aurora Baptist temple for 3 years

Kid point team off and on for 6 years at NPC, Springfield, MO
