[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

A friend invited my to Youth For Christ when I was 16 years old (February 1986). When they gave the invitation to accept Christ, I raised my hand and went down to the front and a counselor shared Scripture with me and prayed with me to invite Christ into my heart. Praise God for the friend who invited me and that God got me from the highest balcony in the building down to the front!

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Awana Leader and Director (PVBC, 4-5 years); Awana Game Leader/Leader in Sparks, (Glenwood Baptist Church, 1-2 years)

Assist briefly with Backsnacks program (Harmony Vineyard); Serve food to the community through Harvesters food ministry (Vineyard Church)

Mission trip to Mexico, Hurricane Hugo mission trip to help with clean up; various inner city missions (Christian Campus House – SMSU which is now Missouri State University, 2 years).

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

I did not grow up attending church regularly, so one of my good friends invited me to go with her family when I accepted Christ. She and others also invited me to Youth For Christ camp and we went to YFC rallies most Saturday nights. (I tried out for the choir and was accepted, but due to my commitment to high school volleyball I didn’t get to see how that would have played out.) These experiences helped me to understand the importance of community/fellowship with those who were like-minded, as well as the need to be in God’s house, in His Word, and learning and growing in Christ regularly.

Attending campus ministry at college (3 hours from home) was something I sought out during the first week I was on campus. Again, it provided community, lasting friendships, Bible study, worship, missions opportunities, serving opportunities, and growth in my walk with the Lord. It also helped me to become a stronger witness to my immediate family and those around me.

Supportive parents, a loving husband, and wonderful kids have made a huge impact in who I am today. My parents loved me with all they had, instilled a good work ethic, never gave up on each other during hard times, and supported me through good times and tough times. My husband has extended much love, peace, patience, and a great listening ear which has often soothed a wife who typically idles on nervousness and perfectionism. I’ve learned to dial things back! Having two children with hearts for Christ is beyond anything I could imagine. I’m just plain blessed, in a big way. They have had a huge impact in teaching me about the love of Christ and what faith in Him looks like. I wouldn’t understand what fun could really be like without them in my life to help me “pause” and soak in the moments.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

My parents worked hard to provide for my brothers and I and we were always well taken care of, but I do recall seasons of “hard times” where it was a struggle for them to provide basic needs. It plays into why I have a heart for those in need.

Being divorced has given me compassion for single parents, blended families, and for the children that have to come to terms with a broken home they did not ask for, nor cause. My daughter was very young and my situation wasn’t typical in some respects, so I was blessed with getting to raise her up in Christ without a lot of “tug-of-war”. It has made my heart more sensitive to what kids endure and what consequences are faced as a part of divorce. My experience helped me understand the judgment and assumptions a broken family faces.

There were a few times as a kid that the punishment given seemed too severe for the infraction. It wasn’t just through the eyes of a child at the time, but as an adult I look back now and the wound felt horribly deep and the fear instilled was immense. My dad grew up in an abusive home and yet he did a great job raising his own kids by comparison, considering his own heart had been broken and shattered regularly as a kid. I recall seeing my dad and grandpa agruing when I was probably 12 years old, and it was a scary thing. I know that’s why my heart hurts deeply when anyone, especially a child, is physically or verbally abused or punished severely. It probably plays a large part in why the “mercy showing” runs high in me.

#1 Gift, Evangelism (96%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I have always had a passion of sharing my faith and love to others since the beginning of my walk with Jesus because of what I have seen Him doing in my life and other people’s lives. I think I could take it step further in bigger groups of people or a smaller group, in which I do have experience in both already, to share my love and faith so that everyone can grow together. The love I have for other people who are suffering inspires me to grow in my faith so I can build them up through the experiences I have with Jesus (it’s because I have known a lot of suffering in my life that I do this).

#2 Gift, Teaching (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I love teaching others things that I am very passionate about, so being passionate about Jesus, the Gospel, and a bunch of other things allows me to learn and grow more in those things and teach others what I know. If I don’t have an answer to anything, I am always joyfully willing to take the time to learn more of what I don’t know. I also grow more if I do teach others what I know and usually I end up learning a lot more than what I’ve known beforehand.

#3 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (87%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
The Holy Spirit has helped me break out of a lot of dark seasons in my life so being able to recognize people who are hurt gives me delight to be able to pick them up with my words or actions using the same Spirit’s guidance. I have also been told that I change a lot of people’s hearts for Jesus with my friendships, words, or actions alone.

[H]eart

Three things I love to do that bring joy and fulfillment in my life:

1. I love to create and play all different types of music. My favorite time to be alone is playing the piano or guitar, singing or not.

2. I love to play games or sports because I get to be with other people and yell around.

3. I love to cook and eat food with other people because I love community, especially when it is around a bunch of food.

Who I love to work with most, and the age or type of people:

I love to work with little kids because I have a passion of helping little ones grow to be awesome followers of Jesus before they get older. I also love to work with teenagers in high school because I am not very far off the age group, so I can relate to them and they are my biggest inspiration in life.

Church issues, ministries, or possible needs that excite or concern me the most:

I love it when Churches go out of their way to do “church” differently like play new music that you don’t normally play in a traditional church, or approach deeper harder topics that make most people want to leave the building. Some churches I have been to don’t necessarily take the time to grow together, so being able to create an atmosphere of close community for people who feel distant is really important.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was an underdog and an outcast growing up in a big family of failures, so I never seen myself as valuable or likable, so later down my life I threw myself out and became super bitter at everyone around me unless I could fully trust them. When I was first invited to a youth group meeting my senior year of highschool I was shocked to be even be getting an invitation from someone. So I ended up going after 2 months of waiting and thinking about it, and I was invited into a place where I was fully excepted and loved for who I was and who I was to become. I knew that in the church, I was home and I seen the love of the Father through my pastor and his family whom I was adopted into. That same love brought me to the feet of God asking for mercy expecting to receive punishment for all that I have done; instead, I was given love and unjust judgement and a great task to love everyone I meet.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Living Water Church, Box Elder MT, Worship/Nursery, 1 year.

Zootown Church, Missoula MT, Worship/Cameras/Sound/Kids Ministry, 1.5 years.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

I volunteered to work with kids in the grades K through 6th.

Sharing my passion for Jesus to hundreds of students on the University of Montana campus.

Showing love and ultimate forgiveness to a person who stole hundred of dollars from me.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

My mother used to be a drug addict and a prostitute and she used to take me and my siblings with her on her jobs.

My dad used to beat me and mentally abuse me growing up resulting in me having anger, depression, anxiety, and several other mental illnesses.

When I left home, several of my close friends in school and in my family died and the years that followed, more passed on and I couldn’t return home to be with them.
