My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was raised in the church, attended youth group and Sunday school. In 7th grade, I went on my first winter camp trip with the youth group and I was absolutely amazed by the community of believers and worship. I felt inspired. I was never the same after that camp. I started delving into the Bible and I realized there was so much more to life. Thus began my journey as a believer in Jesus Christ.

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

My testimony of how I became a Christian is all my life I’ve tried to get baptized. I’ve signed up for baptism at least three other times throughout my years, and something always came up. Whether it was me being out of town, or an unexpected emergency. No matter what I did, I couldn’t get baptized. Easter 2017, Pastor Gene did a random baptism and told the crowd that he was feeling the moment and if we want to get baptized, to stand up. So I did, and even in that moment, I felt like something was going to pop up to where I couldn’t get baptized, but I got baptized, and it was the happiest moment of my life!!!

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

I have been serving on the On-Call Team at Eastside Church in Anaheim, CA since March 2018.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

My first positive experience from the past that has made a big impact on who I am today is my last job. Even though this may not sound positive to you, my last job has humbled me by embarrassment. I had put that job first before God, myself, and anyone else, which was my mistake. After no longer working there, I was forced to figure out “Who am I without a job?” Which leads me into my second positive experience.

My second positive experience from the past that has made a big impact on who I am today is serving for Eastside. I helped hoarders declutter their homes so they would be able to pass inspection, and continue to live in their homes. It was such an amazing feeling being able to help people who didn’t know where to begin. It was that moment that I told myself, “The next job I get has to involve helping others. I don’t want to work just for a paycheck. I want to help others and know that God will take care of me!”

My third positive experience from the past that has made a big impact on who I am today are my children. I have three beautiful daughters that were a blessing in disguise. Not only have they taught me patience beyond my knowledge, but they have helped me, and continue to help me want to better myself through Christ so I can be a great role model for them.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

My first negative experience from my past that has helped shape me is when a woman in Irvine tried running me off the the road screaming the “N” word out of her window. My children were in my vehicle and I was sitting at a red light on my phone mapping my next destination. She was yelling at me to get off of my phone, and that there is no texting and driving. Technically she was right, but I was still upset at that moment, along with my daughters being terrified. I looked over at my oldest daughter who was sitting in the front seat and realized that it was then and there that I would have to make the choice to yell back at her, and have my daughters see me act like a lunatic, or to just ignore the woman. When the light turned green, the woman in the other car cut me off, was holding her phone out her window waiving it in the air, yelling with foul language about me, while consistently slamming on her brakes. I got into another lane and the woman cut me off again while slamming on her brakes. Finally I saw an opening, jumped two lanes over and speed up. She wasn’t able to do the same, so as I passed her, she was just screaming out the “N” word at me, and I just kept going. Then my oldest daughter looked at me and asked, “Mommy, what does a ‘N’ mean?” Holding back my tears I just told them, “There is going to be a time when you come across mean people, and they are going to call you all kinds of mean things, but you just have to be the bigger person and ignore them. Not everyone is going to be your friend, and that is ok.” Once I got to my destination, I realized that I felt more sorry for that woman than I did to feel angry or upset. Now if this was a a few years ago, I would’ve reacted differently, but at that moment, I realized how much compassion I have for those who are in the wrong or right. It’s not up to me to judge them, God will handle that.

A second negative experience from my past that has helped shape me is going through my divorce. Just knowing I was going to be on my own with my daughters was a scary thought for me. I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it, or get anywhere in life. Starting my life all over again, who would want a divorced woman with three kids? I kept moving forward, but with emptiness, until I started going to Eastside church. That’s when I stopped trying to do everything on my own and just surrendered my life to him. Since then I’ve given my life to God and realized I couldn’t do it without him, is the day my life instantly started turning around. Help started coming at me in every angle, shape, and form to get me back on my feet. I started making new friends who are also believers, my job and living situation became more stable, and my life was turned around before I even knew it. Now I know, no matter how bad the circumstances are, as long as I keep God as my priority, I will get through anything because I can do all things through him. I am forever thankful.

A third negative experience from my past that has helped shape me was being in an abusive relationship because I was too afraid to stand up for myself. I thought I was in love, and was going to be with him forever. Looking back, I was just in love with the things he had along with the social life that came along with it. He had nice cars, his own house, a lot of money that he spent aimlessly. He gave me anything and everything I wanted and asked for, but the price I had to pay was his verbal and physical abuse in return. Accusing me for things I wasn’t even doing, just to find out after everything that he was doing exactly the things he was accusing me of. One night he got too physical, and I decided to fight back, the neighbors called the cops, and I never saw him again. I didn’t look back either, and I made a promise to myself that I won’t ever be in another relationship like that ever again. To look at the signs, and actually pay attention to them. All the signs were there to leave him, but I was just young and naive. Since this incident, it has really sharpened my awareness on different types of people, and this has been my life saver on multiple occasions.
