#1 Gift, Mercy Showing (93%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I always have an open heart toward the abused, under-priviledged, impoverished, neglected and person who society overlooks for various reasons. This has been a trait of mine since childhood that I can’t seem to move away from. No matter what a person has done I always have a soft spot in my heart for them. When it comes to wrong does I believe that those who hurt others are often victims themselves.

#2 Gift, Exhortation/Encouragement (90%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
When others are feeling down or going through a difficult time I am happy to encourage them and lift them up. I often can see the goodness in others who may not see it themselves and I when I see someone wanting counsel or someone to talk to about their issues I have a listening ear and I give good advice. When I exhort others I don’t look for their gratitude or acknowledgement of my help. I just hope that I can give them something to work with and keep moving forward in their life.

#3 Gift, Administration (68%)

This gift’s evident in my life in the following ways:
I am not often eager to be in charge of projects or groups, but I do enjoy planning events and projects. I also do well with organizing information and making sure that other receive the information they need to carry out tasks. I most consider myself to be an assistant to a Coordinator as I don’t usually like being the boss.

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I became a Christian at a very young age. I was raised in the Church of God in Christ Church and spent a lot of time attending church and ministry with my grandmother who was an evangelist. I have strayed away from Christ as an adult and returned to Christ in the last ten years when I decided to dedicate my life to God again.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Power of Change Christian center in Cahokia, IL as a praise and worship member for the youth choir.

I have also served on the praise team and sang in the choir at various churches as a young adult.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

As a child I visited several nursing homes with my grandmother to minister to elderly residents and pray for them. We also played music for them and had bible study. This experience taught me the value of service to others.

In high school I had a travel abroad experience to Spain that gave me a global perspective. Since then I have taken other trips abroad and would love to take part in some trips for ministry. I believe that it is important to make global connections and let go of prejudice to accept everyone no matter who they are or where they come from.

Becoming a mother has had a very big impact on my life and the way I see the world. It has made me more protective and concerned with family matters. I have always loved children, but becoming a parent takes that perspective even further gives me a desire to make the environment a better place for our future generations.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Negative experiences in higher education gave me the motivation to do better and achieve my goals as an adults. I am proud that I never gave up on going to college and graduating. I also try to encourage other with similar challenges to do the same.

As a child I did not get to have relationship with my father and it hurt me very much. Sometimes I feel still hurt by the thought that my dad didn’t really love me and was never there for me. Then I would project that onto my relationship with God and feel a denial of his love, but I’ve learned that God’s love is unconditional and he isn’t like humans and this gave me the ability to love my own father unconditionally. We have a better relationship now and I know that he loves me.

As an African American woman, I have experience several prejudices and discrimination in our society. I know that I am not alone and that others experience the same everyday. Some of the discrimination I experience in the past limited my opportunities and cause me to become depressed. One time I even lost a job due to some discrimination at a job, but I overcame those issues and moved on. Today I’m still learning new ways to overlook these issues and focus on what I want to do with my life and would like to be an example to someone else in my shoes.

Wrapping It Up

The Challenge: Based upon your S.H.A.P.E. Assessment above (the way God wired you), If you knew you couldn’t fail … and ‘lack of money, or time’ was not an obstacle… list your Top 3 Things you would ‘Focus’ your Life on, next to #1 Loving God & #2 Loving Your Neighbor (these would be your ‘3 God-Sized Dreams’ for your life)?

1. My Relationship with GOD

2. My Relationship with Others

  • Putting Your Spouse First
  • Your Kids Second
  • Everyone Else After those

3. I would love to volunteer at a hospice or hospital.

4. I would love to counsel at-risk or abused children.

5. I believe that going on a mission trip would be a great way to teach others and tell them about the love of Christ.

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

Raised in a Christian family household and accepted Christ at the age of roughly 10. My family migrated to Melbourne from HK in 2005 at the age of 12 and since then have been attending the same church. I served in the music ministry throughout high school, and was spiritually stable but not growing heaps. Then I found out in year 11 that my father had an affair which tore the family apart. But despite that I still experienced God’s hand upon us through the support of family and friends. My relationship with God started to deepen halfway into my uni course where I joined a Christian group and later also went on missions. Through that God had planted a seed in me for evangelism. But that was only the beginning. As I graduated from uni into full time work, God grew in my heart a desire for His word, and for children (through serving in children’s ministry). I also discovered a lot of buried insecurities within me in which God is gradually doing a healing work and reminding me of my worth in Christ.

Ministry Experience (Where I have served in the past, if applicable, including ChurchName, City/State, Position, Years Involved):

Children’s ministry

Music ministry – keyboard

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Going on mission trips (summer project, china trip, beach mission)

Having few close friends whom I can confide in and have accountability with

Joining Christian group at uni – meeting a bunch of passionate Christians and serving alongside them

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Broken family/lack of father figure throughout most of my childhood

Rejection during job hunting phase

Feelings of loneliness
