My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was raised in Church and I was blessed with a praying mother. My parents divorced when I was 16 years old. At that age I was a young dreamer, and I wanted to be a rock star. That fueled my passion to pursue my dreams and I did at any cost. I began to play out in clubs at a young age.

I moved to Florida in 1988 to pursue my dreams in music. I rose the ranks of the Florida music scene and eventually picked up by a touring band out of Orlando. Toured and traveled full time playing the premier venues in Florida and the southeast. I used to call my mom from the road to tell her to stop praying from me! I was living my dream, (or so I thought), yet I was not fulfilled. I let the party get in the way of the music, and that led me down dark paths. I returned home to Naples (1992 ish) and continued to spiral down. February of 1993,

I gave my life back to the Lord while doing a 58 day jail time for a drug charge. It was a great jail experience! Ever since then it has been a long hard path back to where I am today. I was introduced to Celebrate Recovery at Grace Church, Cape Coral. I plunged into it, serving while still in recovery myself. I pressed on over the years battling addiction. (My drug of choice was cocaine). I have over 10 years clean from that drug.

I have worked in Celebrate Recovery for many years, as a leader, worship leader, trainer, coach. I have been involved in 3 successful Celebrate Recovery “start ups”, all of which continues to thrive and change lives this very day. I have worked alongside my CR ministry leader (John Eklund) who sits at the table with John Baker, founder of CR and Rick Warren. (Celebrate Recovery was founded and is thru Saddleback Church).

In 2009 I wrote and recorded my 1st Christian full length CD, (Guy Franklin “ARISE”). That work got me signed with the Christian label, Tate Music Group, out of Oklahoma. My 2nd album came in 2013 (Guy Franklin “Awakening”) on the same label. My Christian touring band Guy Franklin was one of the highlights of my music ministry. I have been on inner city music tours, played major Christian festivals, and many of the most well known Christianb venues in Nashville, (Michael W Smiths venue, Rocketown). I spent lots of time in Nashville ministering, while promoting my music.

Being on the worship team at Living Waters was a highlight of my music career. I auditioned and Pastor Angi put me into action right away. I served as one of 3 main worship leaders for 2 years, serving at both Estero and Naples campus. Naples was a start up campus and I lead the way musically eventually assigned to that campus as the worship leader.

I have come a long, long way! Gods not through with me yet. Let’s go Everglades Life Church!

The Band Guy Franklin, Christian touring band, 2008 – present
Christian recording artist, toured, traveled, and brought the message of Jesus Christ to typically a non church environment.

List 3 Positive experiences from the past that made a big impact on who you are today:

Being on the worship team at Living Waters is one of my most positive experiences in ministry. I learned alot about “bigger” ministry. The worship team community. My friends today are mainly worshipers. I have experienced the “big” venue with “big” crowds, but the LW worship team involvement was fulfilling.

Bible College. I received my degree in Christian Theology from West Virginia Christian University. I loved the deep study of Gods word and studying the Bible in detail.

Celebrate Recovery. Working with people and seeing them free from addiction. When you see and experience someone who has been set free and delivered…is a different kind of worship.

List 3 Negative Experiences from your past that have helped to Shape me, but also have given you great compassion for others going through similar circumstances:

Being an addict

Overcoming (and continuing to overcome) big obstacles and challenges in life.

Feelings of rejection and relevance.

Your Primary was ‘The Beaver’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Lion’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility

Lion- This personality likes to lead. The lion is good at making decisions and is very goal-oriented. They enjoy challenges, difficult assignments, and opportunity for advancement. Because lions are thinking of the goal, they can step on people to reach it. Lions can be very aggressive and competitive. Lions must learn not to be too bossy or to take charge in other’s affairs.

Strength: Goal-oriented, strong, direct
Weakness: Argumentative, too dictatorial
Limitation: Doesn’t understand that directness can hurt others, hard time expressing grace

[E]xperience

My brief testimony of how I became a Christian

I was baptized when I was just an infant. I grew up going to bible study although I kind of just went through the motions. After my confirmation I was sent to a “Jesus Camp” one summer, called Witness to Truth. At the time, I really did not want to go. I had my doubts about God’s existence because science told me otherwise (ie. the Big Bang Theory and evolution). I couldn’t really believe there was a God because of all the tragic things going on in the world. Wouldn’t God put an end to all the war, hunger, and sickness? But it was toward the end of that trip– specifically during adoration– that everything changed. He was working in me during the trip as I learned He had a reason for everything. I learned there was no real concept of time– which helped me to better understand the Creation and much more. Then suddenly, during adoration, as I sat there praying and looking at the Eucharist, it hit me. A HUGE burden of guilt for not believing in Him was lifted from me and I was forgiven. I closed my eyes as I was sobbing and could hear him say I was forgiven. And that’s the moment I knew God existed and when I say I officially became a Christian.

S.H.A.P.E. Assessment Results

Thank you Rayanna for taking the SHAPE Assessment. We encourage you to meet with a Church Leader that you respect, to go over your results, so that they can help you discover a place to serve in the church and/or community, and also to help you fine-tune your 5 Main Focuses/Priorities listed at the bottom of this email under the ‘Wrapping it up’ section. May God Bless You!

Your Primary was ‘The Retriever’, with your Secondary coming in as ‘The Beaver’, and here are the descriptions of your Personalities, and how they can be used for God

Golden Retriever- Good at making friends. Very loyal. Retriever personalities do not like big changes. They look for security. Can be very sensitive. Very caring. Has deep relationships, but usually only a couple of close friends. Wants to be loved by everyone. Looks for appreciation. Works best in a limited situation with a steady work pattern.

Strength: Accommodating, calm, affirming
Weakness: Indecisive, indifferent, unable to express emotional, too soft on other people
Limitation: Seeing the need to be more assertive, holding others accountable

Beaver- Organized. Beavers think that there is a right way to do everything and they want to do it exactly that way. Beaver personalities are very creative. They desire to solve everything. Desire to take their time and do it right. Beavers do not like sudden changes. They need reassurance.

Strength: High standards, order, respect
Weakness: Unrealistic expectations of self & others, too perfect.
Limitation: Seeing the optimistic side of things, expressing flexibility
