[E]xperience
I came to know Christ back in 2007 while I was still in Zambia (my parent’s home country). I grew up in a Christian home, my father was (and still is to this day) a pastor. I grew up knowing the Christian lingo, my parents made sure that me and my sisters grew up in an environment where Godly values were upheld. My father would always call the family in for devotions and bible studies where I would learn a lot of head knowledge about the faith. However, growing up in a Christian family did not by any means make me a Christian, even though by many outward standards I would have considered myself a good person. Even though I new a lot about Christianity, I did not yet know Jesus in such a personal manner at the time, I was merely doing it because that is what I was taught to do and I became good at going through the motions.
Then one fateful day as I was coming back from school, I arrived home and I happened to stumble upon a documentary on one of the Christian channels, the documentary basically tackled the question of where I would spend eternity either at death or when the LORD himself returns. The fact that I had grown up in a Christian environment meant that I had heard about messages like this countless time before, but this particular time I felt the spirit of God convicting me of my own sin and suddenly all the gospel messages that I had heard in the past all began to make sense on a much more personal level. I believe the Spirit of God was showing me in those moments that I was in desperate need of a savior, not only to flee judgment, but also to be made whole and experience the fullness of what it means to be a child of the living God.
I served as a youth leader for my youth group at a church back in Zambia. I did this from 2012 to 2015. I also served as an usher for the church.
I served as a bible-study leader for one of the on-campus small groups during my time in college at the Florida Institute of Technology. The college campus ministry was with InterVarsity. I served from 2016 to 2019 when I graduated from college.
I also served as a leader with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the Vacation Bible School at First Baptist of Melbourne in Florida. I served during the summer of 2016, 2017 and 2018.
When I first came to the U.S. as a student, my first roommate’s family essentially took me under their wing and the Lord used them to provide for me during some really hard time through my time in college.
Finding a job in the Aviation industry after I graduated, this job was the reason I moved from Florida to South Carolina.
My parents teaching me in the ways of Christ and also providing a living example for me and my sister to follow. This collection of experiences has stayed with me even long after I had left my father’s house.
Coming to United States and leaving Zambia was, in many ways initially a negative experience. I basically left my entire family, friends and familiar environment to come to a country that I was born in but never grew up in. I had to adjust to and learn a lot about the culture, the people and just the overall different environment. The Lord used this experience to eventually get me out of my own shell and to grow as a Christian.
Having a huge deficit in my tuition when I first started college in Florida. I was born in the United States, but my parents both are not American. This meant that my parents could not be able to provide for me financially during my time in college. However, the Lord sent many people my way during this time. It was during this time that I really grew spiritually by depending on God’s providence, my identity as a Christian grew as my faith became my own and not just because I had grown up in a Christian household. Things were not always easy, but the fact that I’m still here is a testament to how much God had provided for me during these hard times.
I lost my job back in October and this experience again taught me the importance of relying on God for everything. I have since found a new job.
